Why it’s important to interview potential Realtors if you plan to buy a home this spring.
Let’s be honest here, not all agents are created equal. I could tell you stories for days but I am not one to throw my colleagues under the bus so I won’t. I will say that it’s SOOOO important to interview a Realtor before choosing them to represent you for one of the biggest purchases OF YOUR LIFE!!!
Below are a few questions we recommend you ask the candidate you are considering:
How much experience do you have? This doesn’t mean how many years you have in the business. I know plenty of Realtors who have had a license for a long time but they sell 1 home a year or keep their license in a non-active status. Would you want someone who sells 1 home a year and may not know the current climate negotiating for you? Chances are you don’t. You want someone who has experience in the past, and present transactions and has a clue about what’s ahead so you know that you are being led in a winning direction.
Availability. With homes the last few years flying “off the shelf” most time you don’t have a few days to wait to get into a property to view it. If it’s listed and it’s a stunner, it’s going to sell. Make sure your candidate can get there when you need them to. Do you work during the day? They should be able to show you in the evenings and on weekends too. A part-time agent may not be able to prioritize your needs and urgency if this isn’t what they practice 365 days a year. We know because we have earned new clients by simply having the availability to help them when someone else did not.
Resources. Do you know what Radon is? Do you know how to mitigate Radon? Do you know someone who can mitigate radon without ripping you off? Maybe not, but we do 🙂 With experience comes tons of reliable and trustworthy resources. You want to know that whatever hurdle or challenge is ahead, your agent has someone for it all. Loan officers, title companies, Real estate attorneys, home inspectors, HVAC professionals, painters, someone to put in a new fence- you name it we have someone! While we mainly help you with home shopping(or selling) we have a team full of people who can help you even after we close!
Reviews. Anytime I try a new restaurant I always check the reviews. I want to know all the tea and make sure I am making a good choice. You should do that when you are checking out Realtors too. Look them up, check out their reviews, and look up their socials. It’s a simple and easy way to find out if they would be a good potential match and learn a little bit about them and how they work!
There are plenty of other questions you could ask in an interview but we felt this was a good start. We, of course, hope it’s us getting the chance to earn your trust and we fully intend to knock your socks off but in case it’s not one of RREG’s top producers, we are ready when the others don’t measure up to your standards!
Cheers!
